Este trabalho aborda as práticas e as medidas de gestão do fogo no quadro do desenvolvimento da silvicultura e das políticas de florestação em Portugal, mostrando que a afirmação de um campo científico sobre o fogo, na segunda metade do século XX, representa a fusão do conhecimento especializado e da experiência local de agricultores e pastores, bem como o reequacionamento das medidas de exclusão do fogo no sentido de uma compreensão mais complexa e matizada do papel do fogo na paisagem rural.
Paper published in the journal History of Science and carried out as part of Task 2 of the FIREUSES project – Outlining the politics and science of fire. This study looks at fire management practices and measures in the context of the development of forestry and afforestation policies in Portugal, showing that the affirmation of a scientific field on fire in the second half of the 20th century represented the fusion of specialized knowledge and the local experience of farmers and shepherds, as well as a shift from exclusionary measures towards a more complex and nuanced understanding of the role of fire in the rural landscape.
