Em meados de agosto de 2025, na sequência da vaga de incêndios que assolava a região centro e norte de Portugal desde julho, o jornal francês MEDIAPART enviou um repórter para a região da Covilhã de forma a acompanhar de perto a situação. Daqui resultou uma extensa reportagem (com cerca de 6 mil likes no Instagram da MEDIAPART), baseada em várias entrevistas que incluíram uma conversa com o investigador Miguel Carmo sobre a investigação desenvolvida no FIREUSES. Como notou um dos entrevistados, André Morais, técnico de proteção civil e especialista em incêndios florestais que conhece bem a região da Covilhã, "o megafogo que devasta os arredores da Covilhã é a continuação histórica das florestas plantadas pela ditadura; sabendo que agora também é preciso acrescentar as alterações climáticas, que aumentam a frequência e a intensidade dos incêndios."
In mid-August 2025, following the wave of fires that had been ravaging central and northern Portugal since July, the French newspaper MEDIAPART sent a reporter to the Covilhã region to closely monitor the situation. This resulted in an extensive report (with around 6,000 likes on Mediapart's Instagram), based on several interviews, including a conversation with researcher Miguel Carmo about the investigation carried out at FIREUSES. As one of the interviewees, André Morais, a civil protection technician and wildfire expert who knows the Covilhã region well, noted, "the mega-fire ravaging the outskirts of Covilhã is the historical continuation of the forests planted by the dictatorship; knowing that now we must also add climate change, which increases the frequency and intensity of fires."
