No dia 19 de Maio de 2025, o projeto recebeu em Lisboa o historiador Marlon Brandt da Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, Brasil, que apresentou a palestra intitulada “Paisagens caboclas nas florestas com Araucária do Sul do Brasil”. Cruzando o seu interesse pelas populações tradicionais das florestas do Sul do Brasil, a história da suinocultura e da colonização alemã e italiana no Oeste de Santa Catarina, a palestra teve por objetivo discutir a formação de uma “paisagem cabocla” na formações florestais de Araucária do Sul do Brasil a partir do desenvolvimento de práticas de uso comum da terra na criação de animais soltos e na extração da erva-mate. Tais práticas passaram a entrar em declínio na segunda metade do século XX com o avanço de uma nova lógica socioespacial, representada pela apropriação privada da terra, a exploração madeireira e a expansão agropecuária.
On May 19 2025 the project welcomed in Lisbon the Brazilian historian Marlon Brandt, from the Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul, who gave a talk titled ‘Caboclo landscapes in the forests with Araucaria in southern Brazil’. Combining his interest in the traditional populations of the forests of southern Brazil, the history of pig farming and German and Italian settlement in Western Santa Catarina, the goal of the talk was to discuss the formation of a ‘caboclo landscape’ in the forest Araucaria biomes in Southern Brazil through the development of practices related with the common use of the forest in the creation of free ranging animals and the extraction of yerba mate. These practices declined in the second half of the XX century with the expansion of a new socio-spacial logic, represented by the private appropriation of the land, the timber industry and agribusiness expansion.
