Most of the Pergaminhos collection of the Irmandade de São Crispim and Crispiniano fonds are deeds, contracts and donations related to estates belonging to the brotherhood. A lease agreement on July 7, 1421, mentions a Jew of Guimarães named Abraão Çaa Diaz who leased a house and an upper “camareta” (a small room) in Rua da Judiaria (Jewish quarter Street) for nine years to the “alcaide” of Miranda, Gil Lourenço. The same house and "camareta" had been previously rented to a Jewish tailor named Isac (PT/AMAP/ECL/ISCSCGMR34/021/8-5-4-30). A digital copy of this document is available online:

Archival history
-
The parchments collection of the Irmandade de São Crispim e São Crispiniano was incorporated at the foundation of the Arquivo Municipal Alfredo Pimenta in 1931. In 1963, a group of other documents also pertaining to the same brotherhood were incorporated in the Arquivo Municipal de Guimarães (Municipal Archive of Guimarães). In 2016, the parchment collection of the brotherhood was restored and transcribed in the sequence of the project “As colecções de pergaminho do Arquivo Municipal Alfredo Pimenta” (The parchment collections of the City Archive Alfredo Pimenta), funded by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

Administrative / Biographical history
-
The Confraria de Santa Maria dos Sapateiros (Brotherhood of Saint Mary of the Shoemakers), later the Irmandade de São Crispim e São Crispiniano (Brotherhood of Saint Crispin and Saint Crispinian), was founded in the 13th century. It was a religious and social organisation that aimed both to zeal for the cult of Saint Crispin and Saint Crispinian, the Christian patron saints of shoemakers and saddlers, and to provide social aid to its brothers, namely medical care and funding of funeral rituals and ceremonies.
The Irmandade was headed by the “cabido” (chapter), and its administrative body also included a judge, a steward, and a clerk. The Irmandade ran the Albergue de S. Crispim (Saint Crispin Hostel), later the Hospital dos Sapateiros (Shoemakers’ Hospital), which was founded in the 14th century with the mission of providing medical assistance to shoemakers of Guimarães.
