Synopsis

Letter on April 8, 1772: Hayley and Hopkins had received the original certificate for Captain Buckley's spirits. Lopez thought the price on the Minerva to high, but Hayley and Hopkins tell that they did all in their power to get it lower but it was difficult to get it done even at the price they gave. About the liberty to the Venus to touch at Madeira. They had not yet attempted the insurance on Venus' returning voyage. No information on John Pyner's arrival. The troublesome affair of the Jacob's freight was solved - they enclose the account. Sales of the mahogany and logwood received by Gilbert. A mail arrived from Lisbon that afternoon: according to the printed lists which came with it, the Venus arrived at Lisbon. They had also heard that Pyner was put into Malaga on March 11(?).
Letter on May 16, 1772: Hayley and Hopkins write that they have a letter from Captain Pyner dated at Malaga, March 25. The Minerva had not yet arrived. Invoice of a few goods shipped in the Charlotte, Captain Rogers. Account sales of sundries from the Abigail, including a cask of sugar and 8 bags of pimento. No letter from Lisbon regarding the Venus. The price of the hemp is high and they advise Lopez to buy it cheaper in Boston. They send enclosed the account freight of the Abigail.
