Scope and content
The Archivio notarile mandamentale di Alatri fonds is composed of acts drawn up by about 235 notaries who exercised their profession in the territory of Alatri, in the pontifical province of Marittima and Campagna. There are also documents regarding apostolic visits, as well as correspondence from notarial offices, records of expenses and taxes, archival taxes, etc.
The following signatures contain numerous information on Jewish communities and Jewish families living in the district of Alatri, (Sezze, Sermoneta, Ferentino, Fondi and Sora) between the 15th and 16th centuries:

Archival history
In 1980, the Archivio notarile mandamentale di Alatri was trasferred to the State Archives of Frosinone. Previously, it had been kept in the Magistrate's Court archive in the Alatri Town Hall. It holds preserved original acts and copies from the 15th to the 20th century, divided into different documentary types: “protocolli” (files); "volumi" (volumes); "filze" (boxes); "fascicoli" (folders), and "atti sciolti" (documents).
Administrative / Biographical history
After the 1588 bull of Sixtus V "Sollicitudo pastoralis officii", a general public archive was established in Alatri, as in all the municipalities of the Papal State. The archive was aimed at preserving all public and private notaries of the municipality. It worked as an organisation for the conservation of notarial acts and was subject to the control of the Prefettura degli archivi (Prefecture of archives), whose prefect was elected annually from among the clerics of the Apostolic Chamber. Rules regarding archives continued to be issued during the 17th and 18th centuries, both by the Apostolic Chamber, the Camerlengo, and the "Prefetto degli archivi" (Prefect of archives) himself. After the Napoleonic period and with the Papal Restoration in the 19th century, Pius VII decided to concentrate the municipal notary archives in the provincial capitals, in the District Government cities, and in the countries that were the seat of Governors. These municipalities were required to provide everything necessary, such as suitable space and shelving for the conservation of notarial protocols, and to elect the archivist chosen from the district notaries and approved by the "prefetto degli archivi". As seat of the Governorate, Alatri received the deeds of the municipal notarial archives of Collepardo and Fumone in its notarial archive.
