Synopsis
Letter on September 19, 1772: Hayley and Hopkins enclose the invoice of goods shipped at Lopez' account at Bristol in the [ship] Thomas & Beth(?), Captain Smith. Also enclosed the insurance on the Neptune, Captain Bonet, to the Mole and back. The sale of the Joseph was agreed for £500.
Letter on October 10, 1772: Bills remitted by Mayne & Co. to be placed to Lopez' credit. Mayne & Co. told Hayley and Hopkins that the remittance was for the balance of freight made by the Venus from Lisbon to the Coast of Barbary and back. Insurance of the Venus: goods and vessel. Hayley and Hopkins sold a small parcel of the logwood of the Jacob. Enclosed the account sales of the Jacob's cargo. Sale of the rum brought by Captain Boyd. No offer for the Minerva's cargo. They are to receive money for the Joseph, and enclose its account sales and freight: the rum was intolerably high and it makes a miserable account, but the vessel was sold for than its value. Problems with the sale of porcelaine. Negotiations of the Ocean's freights: the offers are inferior to the expected value. They had to return two small bells with protest and are afraid that those of Lopez that are part of the Cleopatra's cargo would meet the same fate.
P.S.: arrival of Captain Hore from Jamaica, bringing 10 puncheons of rum upon Lopez' account. Insurance on the Charlote as Lopez had ordered.
