Synopsis
-
Letter of March 6, 1773: the letter was delivered to Lopez by Captain Allen, on board of whose vessel Hayley and Hopkins shipped sundries for Lopez's account. The quantity of hemp is shorter than those Lopez' desired, and bought for high prices. Captain Wright asked Hayley and Hopkins to procure a boy (slave?) and send him out in the Abigail. Captain Allen delivered them 9 bags of pimento and a cask of sugar. Russian Duck shipped in the Abigail.
Letter of April 8, 1773: The insurance on the Minerva was higher than expected. Hayley and Hopkins applied to Lopez' insurers for the liberty of the Venus to touch at Madeira but they think that they will not agree to without some consideration. The affair of the Jacob's freight was solved and its account is enclosed to the letter. Account sales of mahogany and logwood.
P.S.: A mail arrived from Lisbon. A printed list reveals that the Venus was arrived at Lisbon, but Hayley and Hopkins received no letter. They heard that Peyner put into Malaga on March 4.
