Synopsis
-
Joshua Hart’s daughter Hester was in Newport and returned to Charleston with an Aaron Lopez’s letter. Hart thanks the kind and generous manner in which Lopez treated her whilst at Newport. He rejoyces hearing from his daughter about the return of Lopez’s son-in-law, Abraham Pereira Mendes. He asks Lopez to inform his brother, Abraham Lopez, that the four kegs of cordial had come and they were very fine and good but the large quantity that was imported from Boston of an inferior quality rendered these articles a difficult sale. The anise and orange water are the most saleable. Hart asks to ship for his account ten quarter cask of Lisbon wine: “You will please to ship for my account ten quarter cask of Lisbon wine, as you was born in the country from whence it comes, you will please to let it be of the best quality and such, as have paid the duty with you, by return of the same repell or the first conveyance after I receive the account I will remitt you for the cost and charges”. He tells that he had sent by Munro a cask of groundnuts and a barrel of sweet potatoes to Lopez. In P.S., he also advises that he has sent a half barrel of rice for Samuel Allen.
