Synopsis
-
Costa & Farr inform Lopez that they received the invoice and bill of lading for 9 hogsheads of rum. They lament to tell Lopez of the loss in the rum's sale, since the current price is lower than expected. They are determined to lay up all the rum they have by them up and not offer any for sale till they can obtain a better price than what is now given. The reason for the low prices is that a vast quantity of rum had lately arrived from Newport. Great plenty of rice at markets but freights are very high and scarce, thus, nothing Lopez send to Charleston will answer. However, they advice Lopez to send a vessel with a little rum, cyder, and a few horses.
