Synopsis
Sloop: Abigail. Captain: Benjamin Allen. Destination: Jamaica and London. When Allen had arrived in Port Antonio, he should enquire at the post office after a letter for him from Benjamin Wright. Lopez had asked Wright to write Allen a letter, advising him how markets stand in Jamaica. If he has not found any letter from Wright, he should proceed to St. Ann after disposing of what part of Abigail's cargo he can put off to any advantage. In St. Ann, it is probable that Allen will meet Wright, with whom he should get advice about what effects should be purchased for the London market. If Allen had disposed of any of the goods for cash, he should deliver it to Wright. The cargo that Allen could not dispose of for cash should be converted into good proof rum, pimento and some sugars. Allen should proceed to London and Wright will instruct him to apply to Hayley & Hopkins there, to whom Allen will address the cargo on Lopez's account. In the hands of Hayley & Hopkins, Allen will find letters that Lopez addressed to him with instructions on his further destination, "which at present I know nothing to the contrary but what will be to return home with a cargo of merchandize". "I can't but entrust your vigilance to avoid all the temptations the (?) mechanics will lay before you while at the River of Thames, and unless you arm yourself with a resolution to have nothing to do with them, they will lead you to such charges that you yourself will be amazed and ashamed to have incurr'd in them".
