Synopsis
Sloop: Cupid. Captain: Stephen Bardin. Destination: St. Ann, Jamaica. In St Ann, Bardin should dispose of his cargo for cash and proceed to Savanna la Mar and deliver the net proceeds of the sales to Benjamin Wright and follow his directions. In St. Ann, he should deliver the enclosed letter to William White and ask him if he had received any of the outstanding debts left with him to collect by Captain Hefferman on Lopez's account. If he had obtained any payments, Bardin should deliver the money to Benjamin Wright. Bardin should also demand the payment of £130 Jamaica currency of Captain Samuel Johnson or his attorney in Jamaica. If Captain Johnson does not go this year to Jamaica, then Bardin should enquire of William Robertson whether James Stodthart, attorney of Johnson, had paid him £45 Jamaica currency for 4500 of Lopez's staves that Johnson bought of Robertson. If the payment has not been made to Robertson, Bardin should demand a certificate that he has never been paid. In P.S., Lopez adds that in case of Wright does not arrive at Jamaica by the beginning of June, Bardin should dispose of the sloop if he can obtain 700 dollars, whose amount, together with the net proceeds of the cargo and freight, Bardin should invest in "good unexceptionable" bills of exchange on London: two remitted to Hayley & Hopkins and a third bill brought home to Newport.
