Synopsis
Transcription of the original Portuguese letter with English and German translations.
Costa thanks for the felicitations addressed by Lopez on the occasion of his son's birth. He will attend to the recommendation made by Lopez of Captain Bowers and his brother. Costa informs Lopez on the safe arrival in Charleston of the brigantine Greyhound, Captain Pinnegar. He proposes that half of the commission of the Greyhound's remittance should go to Costa's company. Costa is also resolved to make the consignation a matter apart of the general business of his company with Farr. He confirms the announcement of the slaves, but he advises that they should be sold outside the city since the epidemic is in one or two places nearer Charleston. All precautions will be taken to prevent the infection. Costa informs on the price of commodities: rice, skins, indigo, flour, wax, butter, corn, bushel, rum.
