Synopsis
Pereira informs Lopez of his intention to stay in Kingston until April to collect debts. The money collected until then was subject to charges which amounted to a large sum. He mentions, for example, the charges over logwood shipped in the brigantine Charlotte to London. Other shipments: mahogany to Ciminias & Lousada (by recommendation of his “deceased friend” Aaron B. Lousada), and Thomas Wilson & Son. Amount of the remaining mahogany to be paid to Henry Cruger. He recommends Lopez to send the brigantines Charlotte and Industry at the end of this year or early the following, each vessel with alewives, shads, oil, fish, white staves, read oak staves and spermaceti candles. He has already engaged most articles, as well as 240 hogsheads of molasses. He thinks that Captain Peters is a very good captain but does not fit for this trade, and recommends Captain Brown. Pereira Mendes complains of the behaviour of [Abraham] Lopez of Savanna la Mar. In PS, Pereira Mendes insists on a brig being in Savanna in December and, rather than wait for salt fish, Lopez may complete the cargo with alewives, shads, onions, etc. He also asks for some caser cheese. He adds that he was not acquainted with anything concerning Enoch Myers as Captain All never told him there was a slave belonging to him.
