Synopsis
Wright informs Lopez of his safe arrival after a 73-day passage. Only codfish is in demand. Prices of shads. The island is plentifully stocked with spermaceti candles, lamp oil, superfine and common flour and lumber. Numerous vessels from Philadelphia had supplied the market with spermaceti candles and flour. Planters “are such damned miserable puppies” and “they are frightened to death if people do not appear to purchase their cargoes imediately”. Wright is afraid that produce will break high that year and he predicts difficulties in selling Lopez’s flour, candles and oil. He had engaged all molasses to load the Jacob and about 70 hogsheads more to dispatch Lopez’s other vessels. Wright asks Lopez to send 12 good horses if young and sound. Prices of commodities: spirits of turpentine, boards, white and red oak staves. Mendes had given Wright entire satisfaction of the business. “Our schooner is here all well, she did raise me but little cash, her cargo is chiefly on hand”. He is determined to dispatch Jacob as early as possible. No offer for the schooner yet.
