Synopsis
Daniel Crommelin & Sons inform Lopez that Captain Gorter took onboard the goods for Captain Hathaway and is to depart at the first favourable wind. Since the last letter, they had a long conference with Jacob Chabanel in order to solicit the payment of Lopez’s sundry bills, who continued to tell that he could not engage himself in anything. As Daniel Crommelin & Sons have no power of attorney, they can do nothing to oblige him to render them any account. Lopez had not sent yet the 2000 weight of spermaceti candles which they had demanded but they still encourage him to do it. Attached is the letter on December 16, 1771: Daniel Crommelin & Sons inform Lopez on a bill of lading that was dispatched in the Hendrina, Captain Claas Gorter, with 7 barrels containing 5 chests of tea “for the adventure of Captain Nathaniel Hathaway”. No novelties in the case of Captain Chabanel.
