Synopsis
-
In a previous letter, Brown & Co. had asked Lopez if he had any ballast and if he would take in any freight for Europe in his ship. Lopez informs that the ship is already loaded and discourages them from freight by it. If they want to order any goods from Europe, they will have an opportunity by the return of the ship. Lopez was concerned with the information that Brown & Co. gave him on two sets of spermaceti works intended to be erected at Providence and Dartmouth. A Lopez’s operator told him that “close requisitions have been made of him, both to furnish a plan for the Dartmouth gentlemen and to reveal the mystery, but he has given me strong assurances that he will no ways assist them”. In P.S., Lopez adds that he had returned two (actually, 25 axes) of the six dozens of wood axes that Brown & Co. had sent him because they did not fit his expectations and he asks them to exchange the axes for others.
