Synopsis
Captain Whipple had delivered Lopez the pig iron that Brown & Co. had mentioned in a previous letter. 20 tons were shipped. He ordered John Stevens, the mate of his ship, to weight the pigs – they were 19.15 tons. Doubts regarding allowances over sugar that Lopez sent them. Examination of the stoneware and dishes sent by Brown & Co. - some differences in relation to the original order. Lopez offers to exchange some items. He will take the freight that Brown & Co. proposed in his ship the Benjamin, John Peters master, for London, at the usual freight of 50/stg per ton, “provided there is no war when she arrived in England, but should there be a war, then the freight to be at 60/. Lopez expects to fill the ship by the middle of the following week, whether Brown & Co. send him the oil or not. In P.S., Lopez informs that there is a brigantine in Newport that will sail for London in 2-3 days, and another at Dartmouth that Mess. Rotch is loading, which will sail in about 10 days.
