Scope and content
This collection contains correspondence and business records of some of the founding families of colonial Savannah, including the Minis, the Sheftall and the Gibbons families. It includes an account from George Cornell to Moses Nunez for sundries dating from February 16, 1768 (item 2).

The items in this collection were bound into a volume by their collector, J. Florance Minis.
Administrative / Biographical history
Jacob Florance Minis (1852-1936) was born on November 12, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the eldest son of Abraham and Lavinia Florance Minis. In 1870, Jacob became a clerk (and later partner) in his father's shipping office in Savannah. He was very active in the Savannah community as a member of several clubs and chairman and president of several organisations, including the Commercial Bank, Merchant's National Bank, Savannah Cotton Exchange, Savannah Naval Stores Association, Georgia Historical Society, Savannah Brewing Company, and others. After a short illness, Florance died in Clarkesville on September 3, 1936.
