Scope and content
-
This series of Maryland's Probate Records includes copies of witnesses' wills, codicils, and oaths from 1635 to 1777. The first two volumes contain wills transcribed from other sources (e.g., testamentary proceedings, inventories and accounts, patent records, and proceedings of the Governor and Council). The first volume includes the will of John Lumbrozo, alias Jacob Lumbrozo (S538-1, fols. 249-250). Lumbrozo was the first known Jewish resident in Maryland and one of the earliest physicians in the colony. See the transcription of this will in Hollander (1893).
