Synopsis
-
David congratulates his uncle for the success in the recovery of his captured property “from the hands of those voracious pirates”. He engaged with Welcome Arnold to accompany him on a speculating journey to the Eastward in order to improve some money. He adjusted and balanced Lopez’s account with the assistance of “Mr. Mendes and cousin Jos.”. Since then, he was not able to make any remittances to Mr Smith of Boston, according to Lopez’s orders, “not being yet more in cash than to answer Cap. Duncans Draught”. He followed Lopez’s orders to apply to Mr Reynolds respecting the deerskin breeches and other articles. No good indigo in the market and the common is sold at high prices, so “a few casks may answer very well”. Goods of almost every kind are continually advancing. Wines are in great demand and very high. Mr Mendes promised to forward some goods from Taft's Tavern for Mr Trevett, which with the wine and casher beef he engaged to send him, may probably make a load sufficient to induce a teamster to come down. After closing this letter, David Lopez received a letter from Captain Hathaway informing him that he was captured and carried into Antigua on his passage home. He encloses a copy of this letter.
