Hays gives Lopez information on the state of business in Philadelphia: “it is no a general disaprobation appears among the trading people, it is no secret to say that fixed prices are at an end, and what goods that are now selling is at the most enormous prices that ever yet transpired in course of the war, to quote any particular articles woul be fruitless. Let if suffice that every usuall article sold is now beyond all conception”. He asks Lopez to forward 12 yards of flannel as many of the lowest-priced linen to his family at Tower.
