Synopsis
-
Pereira Mendes informs Lopez of his arrival at Newport. He could not contact George Sears because he was indisposed. Since he was in the town, he procured 4 boxes of oil cheaper than expected. He gives his opinion on Lopez’s “troublesome lawsuit”. People in Newport refused paper money. The affair of a total defeat of Count De Estaing and General Lincoln in Georgia will help to reduce currency. A vessel from Augustean Bound to New York was obliged to put in Newport, in full confidence that the place was still in possession of British troops.
