Synopsis
-
David tells his uncle that he left Newport before Captain Sears could attend to the delivery of goods because of the ill state of his sister’s health, but Abraham Pereira Mendes took charge and forwarded the goods to Providence. The currency problem did not permit David to advance with his uncle’s businesses – “those who have goods of any kind, rather prefer holding them than our fleeting phantom of a currency”. Mears accompanied David to Leicester. Family news. Wishes for a good resolution of Lopez’s lawsuit: “this justice may have placed you secure from the dread of rancorous envy and villainy, in terminating the troublesome litigation which has s0 long disturbed your tranquility”.
