Synopsis
Pereira Mendes mentions the "calamities" his brother Abraham "has suffered from this cruel and unnatural war". For this reason, his brother had intended to return to Jamaica, despite "his former conduct", but he altered his resolution. Pereira Mendes thanks Lopez for how he welcomes his brother after returning from Jamaica. He says that Jamaica is suffering from a total stagnation of trade and the exorbitant prices of all kinds of commodities. Also, violent storms had hit the island, and all kinds of provisions for the growth were destroyed. Famine threatens Jamaica's people. Only the timely arrival of Lopez's fleets could prevent it.
