Administrative / Biographical history
Saint Katherine Cree was constructed by the Prior of Holy Trinity Aldgate so that the parishioners would not disturb the canons in their church. "Cree" is thought to be a corruption or contraction of "Christchurch". The church escaped serious damage during both the 1666 Great Fire and World War II. The church is now used as a Guild Church.
The parish of Saint Andrew Undershaft was united with Saint Mary Axe in 1561. In 1954, the parish was united with the parishes of Saint Katherine Cree and Saint James Duke's Place, which had been united in 1873.
