Scope and content
This collection comprises personal documents, offprints and journals from Manlio Campagnano and his sister, Elda Campagnano. It mainly comprises copies of documents from the state, community, and notarial archives of the Italian cities of Carpi, Modena, and Reggio Emilia. The collection includes lists and detailed descriptions of birth, marriage, and death records relating to the Jewish population living in the regions mentioned above. The collection includes correspondence from Manlio Campagnano relating to his research subjects, as well as genealogical research regarding the families Namias, Portaleone, Usiglio, Rovighi, Osimo, Castelbolognesi, Calò, Sacerdoti, and Campagnano.
The collection includes a list containing information on documents and vital records held by the State Archives of Reggio Emilia regarding the city's Jewish population.
Aside from miscellaneous documents dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, there are also several documents relating to the Jewish cemetery in Modena, as well as censuses of the ghetto population. Moreover, the collection includes a file regarding privileges granted to Jews and information concerning military service and conscription.
The collection also includes documents from the notarial archive of Carpi, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. There is also a file containing information on baptized Jews and a map of the ghetto of Carpi, including the names of the house owners.

Archival history
The collection was permanently deposited in the National Library of Israel in 2002 by Manlio Campagnano's daughter, Lea Campagnano Di Segni.
Administrative / Biographical history
Manlio Campagnano was born in Italy in 1912. He was a chemist and owned a chemical company for the dyeing of wool and straw in Carpi. Aside from his profession, Campagnano also conducted research on the history of the Jews in the Italian region of Emilia Romagna. His sister, Elda Campagnano (1910-2004), was the secretary of the Jewish communities of Milano and Bologna. Manlio Campagnano died in Jerusalem in 2002.

The fonds is divided into four sub-fonds: 1) Documenti riguardanti gli ebrei a Reggio (Documents concerning Jews in Reggio); 2) Carte diverse di M. Campagnano (Miscellaneous papers of M. Campagnano); 3) Documenti riguardanti gli ebrei a Modena (Documents concerning Jews in Modena); and 4) Documenti riguardanti gli ebrei a Carpi (Documents concerning Jews in Carpi). The third and fourth sub-fonds are also subdivided. The former includes Cimiteri ebraici (Hebrew cemeteries), Varia (miscellaneous records) and Dati anagrafici (personal data); and the latter includes the series Articoli (articles) and Pubblicazioni (publications).
Access, restrictions
The collection can be accessed in the reading room and in rooms with microfilm readers.
