Administrative / Biographical history
Aron di Leone Leoni was born in Ferrara in 1932. He was the son of Rabbi Leone Leoni of Ferrara and Venice, who famously fought against Fascist persecution in World War II. Aron di Leone Leoni became an avid historian of New Christians and Sephardic history, researching and writing about the "Marrano" presence and tradition in Ferrara, Venice, Ancona, Pesaro, Antwerp, Hamburg and London. He devoted some of his studies to prominent 16th-century figures and families of the Sephardic Diaspora, such as moel Gabriel Enriquez (alias Yosef Saralvo/Cerralvo), the Marrano João Lopez, or the Benveniste, Nassi, and Abravanel families. He is the author of the two-volume work "La Nazione Ebraica Spagnola e Portoghese di Ferrara (1492-1559)", published posthumously. Aron di Leone Leoni died on March 17, 2010.
