The Documentos en Árabe y Hebreo collection comprises documents written in Hebrew and Arabic held by the Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca (Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca). It is an artificial collection created by the archive to join different documents with similar linguistic characteristics. This collection contains relevant documents regarding the history of Spanish Jewry, such as, for instance, a Hebrew letter from a Jewish merchant from Provence addressed to a relative living in Mallorca (see Lozano Galán 1986, 53) and an undated document in Hebrew reporting a contract between a Jew named Anfus Sirah and a Christian man (see Lozano Galán 1986, 77, for the original document and its translation into Spanish).

Administrative / Biographical history
-
The Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca originated in the 13th century. It was consolidated during the 14th century, in part due to the growing complexity of the city and the Kingdom of Mallorca. Initially, the Archive was stored at the Casa de la Universidad (University building). During the 17th century, a new Town Hall was built on the same site where the archives were installed.
The Diputación Provincial de las Baleares (Provincial Council of the Balearic Islands) was created in 1838. This new institution took charge of the former Kingdom of Mallorca documents. On January 14, 1851, the Archive became the Archivo Histórico de las Baleares (Historical Archive of the Balearic Islands). From 1863 onwards, the Archive pursued a growth policy, progressively incorporating the archives of almost all the institutions responsible for the administration of Mallorca and the Balearic Islands and private archives from different provenances.
In 1955, the Archive moved from its headquarters in the Town Hall to a new building, the Casa de Cultura (Center for Culture). Between 2010 and 2013, the building underwent a process of rehabilitation and comprehensive reform to adapt its functions to current requirements.
