Synopsis
Brigantine: Africa. Captain: Abraham All. Destination: Coast of Africa. All should dispose of the cargo at any part of the coast he may judge most of Lopez and Rivera's advantage. He should purchase a cargo of good slaves such as will best suit the West Indies market, "as you are well acquainted both with the Coast and Trade, we leave to your prudent management the whole transactions on the Coast". They desire All to quit the Coast as soon as posible and make his best way for Barbados, to dispose of the slave there if he can do it with advantage. If not, "you have liberty to proceed to any other, or more English Islands in the West Indies" as far as Jamaica. Whenever he disposes of his slaves on any island where molasses can be procured, he should load the brigantine with molasses. If there are no molasses, then he should load the brigantine with good rum. For the remainder, if he can get cash, he may bring it with him. If not, he may take bills of exchange, provided they are drawn and endorsed "by persons of known character and fortune". If he receive bills, he is to send two thirds of the value to William Head, merchant in London, for account of Aaron Lopez; and the other third to Henry Cruger Jr., merchant in Bristol, for account of Jacob Rodriguez Rivera. "We do not think needless to desire you again that you be very particular in not taking any bills but can be depended upon to be good as there is great danger in all West India bills in which you cannot act with too much precaution". In West Indies, if All find it necessary to value himself on any merchants, "be very carefull in what hands you put our interests". When he had finished his business in the West Indies, proceed with all possible speed to Newport. Lopez and Rivera inform All that, if they consider necessary to alter any part of these orders, they shall lodge their further instructions at Barbados, in the hands of Tucker & Bedford, merchants there.
