Synopsis

Sloop: Industry. Captain: John Hyer. Destination: Kingston. Hyer should dispose of the whole or as much of the cargo as he can in Jamaica for cash or good bills of exchange of undoubted credit. If he cannot dispose of all cargo, Lopez advises him to endeavour to obtain the best intelligence of the state of markets at other ports of Jamaica. In return, Lopez prefers a cargo of molasses, but in case they prove scarce, Lopez then desires Hyer to invest the cash or what he may have left of the cargo in such commodities as Hyer thinks best for Lopez's interest, "as I place a great confidence in your intelligence and capacity conclude leaving the whole of your transactions at Jamaica to your prudent management". Lopez recommends Hyer avoid leaving any outstanding debts or any of Lopez's effects begin, except he goes to Lucea. Lopez finds impracticable to dispose of all the spermaceti candles. In such case, he desires Hyer will leave the candles with Abraham Lopez, merchant at Kingston and deliver him the enclosed letter. Lopez asks Hyer to give him advice on the progress of his trade, since Lopez may regulate his insurance accordingly which is needful. Hyer notes in the letter that he is satisfied with the commission of 7,5% on the sales of the cargo on board of the sloop and also with the privilege of 6 hogsheads in its holds on the return from Jamaica.
