Synopsis

Ship: America. Captain: Benjamin Wright. Destination: Savanna la Mar. In Savanna, Wright should dispose of the cargo in the best manner he can and with the net proceeds of the same and the net proceeds of the cargo of Tender Ranger, Captain William Bardin, and the freight and passage money, Wright should load the America with cargo of molasses. Molasses is the article of preference. When the ship is loaded, 5/8 of what remains in Wright's hands should be remitted to Henry Cruger Jr, merchant in Bristol, for the account of Aaron Lopez, in bills of exchange on Bristol or London. Lopez and Rivera beg Wright to be careful that the drawers or endorsers of the bills are good and responsible men. "As Mr Lopez would prefer that you get the whole load of the ship in molasses so that the remitance to Bristol on his account may be the more considerable should you not be able to procure as much molasses as will load her without either disadvantage or delay, in that case you may lay out one quarter part of what remains in your hands belonging to Mr. Jacob Rodriguez Rivera after getting all the molasses in your power in the ship in good Jamaica rum and ship it in th ship for account of said Mr Rivera". When Wright has finished making use of the Tender to load the America, he should sell the Tender for the most he can. "As you are partly concerned with us and we have a very high opinion of your capacity and integrity we need not recommend to you either dispatch care, not that you avoid leaving anything behind but we leave every other part of the transactions to your prudent management". When Wright has finished his business in Jamaica, he should proceed to Newport. If Wright has loaded the America before finished the collecting of all his debts and should not be able to sell the Tender to advantage, Wright should settle his account with the indebted and leave Captain Bardin to collect in the outstandings and to bring it home in the Tender; and Wright comes away in the America as soon as possible. If he thinks that it will be better to stay himself and receive the outstanding debts and come after in the Tender, he should send the America home with Captain Bardin.
