Scope and content

The Élection de Bordeaux fonds comprises documentation related to taxes produced by this institution. It mostly contains judicial information. Documents are often organised by area of activity, such as actions taken against tobacco smugglers or actions that involved goldsmiths and gold and silver production. Some of these documents relate to Portuguese conversos in Bordeaux. It is the case of a royal order in favour of the Jews of the Portuguese Nation in June 1723, included in a registry of September 14, 1786 (C 4866, fol. 130). The series of "Registre des déclarations où il n'y a que des actes de domesticité", which includes records on taxes over the transfer of goods and others from 1761 to 1763 (C 4880-4904) contains references to members of the Portuguese nation of Bordeaux, such as Moïse Lopez (C 4898) and Naphtali-Lattard de Roze (C 4899, fol. 39v).
