No passado dia 26 de outubro teve lugar na Casa do Povo de Alferce, na serra de Monchique, o colóquio “As Paisagens de Fogo de Monchique: História e memória dos incêndios nas serras do sul”. Destinado à apresentação de alguns dos resultados do projecto FIREUSES, numa iniciativa conjunta com os municípios de Monchique e Silves, este colóquio serviu igualmente para juntar participantes de diferentes projetos em curso sobre o problema dos incêndios em Monchique, tanto de natureza académica como regional, municipal e associativa.
Depois de uma sessão de boas-vindas, que contou com intervenções de Paulo Alves e Rosa Palma, respectivamente presidentes das câmaras municipais de Monchique e de Silves, bem como dos coordenadores do projeto FIREUSES, seguiu-se uma breve leitura de excertos do livro “Uma noite com o fogo” de António Manuel Venda. Num painel de comunicações moderado por Frederico Ágoas, José Miguel Ferreira, Miguel Carmo, Joana Sousa e Marta Silva apresentaram algumas das conclusões das linhas de pesquisa prosseguidas no decurso do projecto, com enfoque no estudo de caso desenvolvido em Monchique.
A manhã terminou com uma mesa-redonda intitulada “Perspetivas sobre os grandes incêndios na serra de Monchique”, durante a qual intervieram Sónia Martinho (Câmara Municipal de Monchique), que falou sobre o Corredor Verde de Monchique; Nelson Correia (Câmara Municipal de Silves), que discutiu a adaptação do conceito Aldeia Segura Pessoa Segura ao edificado disperso; Joana Dias e Guilherme Saad (Projeto BRIDGE) que apresentaram iniciativas de capacitação local e falaram do seu papel na redução do risco de incêndio em Monchique; Miguel Carmo, que propôs três ideias para reflexão a partir da história do fogo em Monchique; e, por fim, António Miranda (Director Adjunto do ICNF Algarve) que discorreu sobre os problemas e perspectivas suscitados pelos incêndios rurais nas serras do Algarve.
Depois de um almoço (“couvada de Monchique” servida pelo restaurante Real 13), os participantes do colóquio visitaram o Cerro do Castelo do Alferce e o seu o centro interpretativo recém-inaugurado no Alferce.
The local seminar “As Paisagens de Fogo de Monchique: História e memória dos incêndios nas serras do sul” was held on October 26 in the Casa do Povo de Alferce, in Monchique. With the goal of presenting some of the outcomes of the FIREUSES project, in a joint initiative with the municipalities of Monchique and Silves, this seminar was also an opportunity to bring together members of different ongoing projects about the problem of fire in Monchique, both academic and regional, municipal and associative.
The welcome speeches by Paulo Alves, mayor of Monchique, and Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, as well as by the principal investigators of the FIREUSES Project, were followed by a short reading of excerpts from the book “Uma noite com o fogo”, written by António Manuel Venda. In a panel moderated by Frederico Ágoas, José Miguel Ferreira, Miguel Carmo, Joana Sousa and Marta Silva then presented some of the results of the research lines developed during the course of the project, focusing on the case study developed in Monchique.
The morning ended with a round table titled “Perspetivas sobre os grandes incêndios na serra de Monchique”, where different stakeholders discussed relevant topics to the region's wildfires: Sónia Martinho (municipality of Monchique) on the Corredor Verde de Monchique; Nelson Correia (municipality of Silves), on the adaptation of the concept of “Aldeia Segura Pessoa Segura” to sparsely populated areas; Joana Dias e Guilherme Saad (Projeto BRIDGE) on local capacitation initiatives and their role in the reduction of fires in Monchique; Miguel Carmo on three ideas for reflection stemming from the history of fire in Monchique; and, finally, António Miranda (Vice Director of ICNF Algarve) on the problems and perspectives on rural fires in the mountains of the Algarve.
